Ingredients for... A MAD Halloween!
Warning: This will stain fabric and furniture - Use with Care! (Will wash off of glass and ceramic.)
Stir the ingredients together until completely mixed. Your mixture creates the illusion of real blood, and is one way of making fake blood used as a special effect in movies!
The Floating Fingertip:
In this activity, you focused your eyes on a point far away, but your eyes still saw objects that were closer. Our brains try to follow what would appear to be a logical conclusion. The image perceived by each eye has to correspond. Our visual system tries to do the best it can, but it is not always correct!
Witch’s Brew with Hand Ice Mold:
The grapes and apples will give the illusion of eyes and teeth. Many movies use illusions to make us think something is happening. The hand ice mold adds to this scary illusion!
Haunting Masks & Jack-O-Lanterns
To make glowing and haunting masks and Jack-O-Lanterns use a red "glow stick" and place inside the Jack-O-Lantern or behind a mask. Many movies and T.V shows have used simple candles and lightsticks to make a mask’s eyes glow.
Heat 1/2 cup water until it boils and remove from heat. Pour in 3 envelopes of unflavored gelatin, wait a few minutes until it softens and stir with a fork. Add corn syrup to make 1 cup. Stir with fork and lift out long strands of mucus. (You will need to add a spoonful of water as it cools.) The monster mucus you just made is protein (gelatin) and sugars (corn syrup) - the same primary ingredients that real mucus is made from. The long strands that you lift out with your fork are strands of protein - this helps to make it sticky, too.
Halloween Face Paint
Mix all ingredients and apply to skin. Mixtures similar to these are used in movies and T.V. for special effects. Makes face paint for 1 child.
